Service Policy
This policy outlines the procedure for handling typewriters that have been left for repair or service but remain uncollected. Our primary goal is to ensure the responsible management of customer property while also protecting our business from the costs and liabilities associated with uncollected items.
1. Definition of an Abandoned Typewriter
A typewriter is considered abandoned if it meets the following criteria:
* The typewriter has been with our business for a period of at least one (1) year from the date the repair or service was completed and the customer was notified.
* We have made at least three (3) recorded attempts to contact the customer to arrange for collection. These attempts will be documented and may include phone calls, emails, and/or written correspondence sent to the contact information provided by the customer.
2. Notification and Communication
Upon completion of the repair or service, we will notify the customer that their typewriter is ready for collection. This initial notification will include the total cost of the work and the deadline for collection.
If the typewriter remains uncollected, we will make a minimum of three recorded attempts to contact the customer. These attempts will be spaced out over the course of the one-year period and will serve as formal notices of our intent to declare the property abandoned. Each notice will include:
* A clear statement that the typewriter is ready for collection.
* A reminder of the outstanding service fees.
* A warning that if the typewriter is not collected by a specified date (at least 28 days from the date of the final notice), it will be considered abandoned under this policy.
* A clear statement that after this final date, the typewriter may be disposed of or sold to recover costs.
3. Disposal or Sale of Abandoned Property
If, after one (1) year and at least three (3) recorded contact attempts, the customer has not collected their typewriter, it will be deemed abandoned. At this point, it is within our rights to:
* Sell the typewriter to recover the costs of the repair, service, and any reasonable storage fees incurred. We are obligated to obtain a fair market value for the item.
* Dispose of the typewriter if its condition, value, or a lack of market demand makes a sale impractical.
4. Record-Keeping
We will maintain a detailed record of all transactions and communications related to uncollected typewriters. This includes:
* The original repair order and all notes.
* The date the service was completed.
* The dates, methods, and content of all attempts to contact the customer.
* Any correspondence from the customer.
* Records of the sale or disposal of the typewriter, including the final cost.
